BACKGROUND
Bolao Victor Mpeqa died in Lesotho in 2020 from a rare cancer. He was a devoted family man, a loving husband and a dedicated employee of the Lesotho Government's National Security Service. His death was unexpected and came as a shock to all family members. He left two children who, from one day to the next, had no father and no financially secure future.
His brother, Andrew Mpeqa, who has been living in Switzerland for several years, then organized a fundraiser that would enable the two children to continue their education in Lesotho. The fundraising campaign was a success and left the wish to support other children and those affected by poverty in Lesotho and South Africa with the financial possibilities from Switzerland. At the same time, personal contact with the population of Lesotho gave rise to the idea of founding a school where the school children are better educated than in the schools that currently exist around the capital Maseru - a school where children are the linchpin of a sustainable change on site.
Therefore, the Victor Bolao Association was founded in 2021. Family members of Victor Bolao Mpeqa and representatives in Lesotho and Switzerland could be won for the board. What all board members have in common is a personal connection to Lesotho. In addition, they are all convinced that the close, personal exchange of committed people in Lesotho and Switzerland can sustainably improve precarious working and living conditions in Lesotho.
what we do
The Victor Bolao Association takes up ideas from the local population in South Africa and Lesotho. The ideas are developed further and implemented together with experts in Switzerland and local volunteers. Supplementary, the association collects funds in Switzerland for the implementation of the projects.
The first major project is the construction of a school in Maseru. Together with teachers in Maseru, the Victor Bolao Association is involved in developing an educational and organizational concept. At the same time, funds are being sought in Switzerland to enable the school to be built.
